The implant group is self-selecting. If patients are allowed to select which of the two treatment groups they are to be assigned to then we would expect the results to be biased. In this case we might expect that patients who requested implant-retained prostheses may well have poor experiences with their current conventional dentures and this this would lead them automatically to have higher expectations of implant-retained ones.
